Congenital Heart Defects
Traditionally congenital heart defects have been taught in a theoretical manner, using 2Dimensional drawings and animations. Students are left to use their imagination to visualise how these defects may function. We have created a library of pathological congenital heart models for students to use in their anatomy learning and faculty to employ in active learning sessions. We hope to expand this collection over the current
Adult Heart Defects
Conditions such as Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Anomalous LCA are typically encountered in clinical practice, and are taught at the first and second year level, largely theoretically. When they are seen in practice, they are rarely seen in 3dimensional views, leaving students and residents to extrapolate these pertinent relationships from CT/MRI images. We are working on generating models, for use in the basic science years, to expose our students to these pathologies, earlier and with the benefits of 3D visualisation
Embryology
In 2022, our focus is to create an introductory collection of embryological models for use during the first and second year.
Molecules
We are currently prototyping models of relevant molecular structures for use in the classroom, including Heme, tRNA and G-coupled receptors.
